Burcher

Bush Chapel
Bush chapel

Burcher started as a railhead and commercial centre for the surrounding farming district.

Burcher is a very proud community and the citizens do most of the work keeping the streets, parks and sporting facilities looking attractive for visitors. The progress Association is strong in the close knit community and they are prominent in the Tidy Towns Competition every year. It is only a small town with about 80 residents but has a lot to offer in the form of a self drive tour. Visit the pub, the old Bakery Museum and Manna Mt, which portrays local aboriginal history in the form of axe sharpening grooves near a waterhole. The Bush Chapel is a peaceful setting to contemplate the mysteries of life. There is also a golf course and usually a local at the pub to give you a friendly greeting.

Manna Mountain and the surrounding hills reveal special association with generations of Indigenous Australians. Deep grooves cut in the rock where Wiradjuri people of the area fashioned and sharpened their axes and other tools. There is a good waterhole nearby the markings as well as the remains of humpies made by aboriginal people camping in the area over the generations.

Return to Condobolin or visit another town.
