Carcoar

Population: 400

Carcoar is not far from Blayney, being just off the Mid Western Highway and on the banks of the Belubula River. Carcoar is a historically significant town. Rather than having individual buildings listed with the National Trust, the WHOLE town is listed! And when you look at it, the town looks dated. This is a good thing from a resident's point of view because this is exactly how the town wants to present itself.

In the town's old days, it reallywas like one of those wild west towns you see in the movies. Robberies seemed to happen on a regular basis. It is claimed Australia's first daylight bank robbery (or we should say attempted robbery) took place here in 1863. The bushrangers came, saw the bank teller's gun, and fled. Unfortunately for the town, bushrangers are a regular feature of its history. These days the town folk speak about its heritage, and bushrangers are part and parcel of it.

The town has had more than its fair share of television cameras shooting movies and television shows. These include Jessica, Let the Balloon Go, Brides of Christ, and Tommy the Kid.
