Gooloogong
With a population of about 300, Gooloogong is a small town, or village. Located a bit out of Cowra, on the way to Forbes, The village can trace its history back to the early 1820's. The original settlement was on the Lachlan River, but due to flooding, was moved to higher ground.
Of interest to a visitor is Croote Cottage. Built by convicts in the 1820's, the cottage has had an interesting past. Wooden pegs fill holes in the walls which were used to shoot aborigines. A basement was built to protect women and children if there was an attack.
