Millthorpe
Population: 600
Millthorpe is south of Orange on the way to Blayney. The town is essentially a service town for the agricultural area surrounding it. This is largely sheep and cattle country, with some vineyards.
Settlement of the area can be traced back to 1823. But it was not until orchards were established, then finally the arrival of the railway, that the town started to prosper. Formerly known as Spring Grove, the name was changed because mail was being lost due to the town name being similar to other locations.
Much of the past has been preserved in local buildings. Not to be overlooked are the streets. The two main streets follow the contour of the land. Look out for the cobbled, bluestone-bordered streets.
