Molong

Population: 1,700

Molong is situated on the Mitchell Highway, between Orange and Wellington. The town is typical of rural communities, being a service town for the surrounding agricultural area. The local produce includes fine wool, wheat, orchards, vineyards, beef cattle and fat lambs. The town is in Cabonne country.

Just a few kilometres north of town was the first metal mine in NSW, being copper. This was back in 1846, thus making the town a historical one. Sadly for the town, gold was discovered at Ophir a few years later and most of the miners left. Still, from a historical perspective, there is much to see in town. The main street, being early Austen-European is classified by the National Trust and you will discover many other beautiful historic buildings scattered throughout the town.

So where is Molong?

Any prospective resident needs to consider the town's proximity to Orange. Just 34km away, Orange is a small city with many services which the residents should avail themselves of. Apart from the health and retail services available, there are employment opportunities. Don't worry too much if work is not available locally, because it will be in Orange.
