Peak Hill
Just 50km north of Parkes is Peak Hill, a small township of about 1,400 people. The location of the town places it close to the halfway point between Parkes and Dubbo. That means not far from the Western Plains Zoo!
Peak Hill is an old town, dating back to the discovery of gold in 1889. The mine has been redeveloped by Alkane Exploration NL, so visitors can still see mining activity when visiting town. A mining and heritage museum is being developed.
As a result of the town's age, a number of stately old buildings are evident. The original hospital dates back to the early 1900's and is listed with the National Trust.
