Tamborine Mountain

Shops at Tamborine

Tamborine statistics:

Population: 5,000+
Annual rainfall: 1550mm

Tourists love what the Mountain has to offer. But it's why people want to LIVE here that interests us. Natural beauty, boutique shops and markets, relief from the hot Queensland summer, and did we mention natural beauty?

Located just south of Brisbane and west of the Gold Coast, Tamborine Mountain refers to the actual 8km mountain range, as well as the three villages along the range. The shops in these villages cater to two obvious markets: tourists and artistically-minded people.

But why would people want to live up a mountain? Would you want to live here? Let's see what Tamborine has to offer.

PLEASE NOTE: The Mountain is close to Brisbane. As a result, residents have ready access to all the services of a major city. The services available mentioned below relate specifically to the township only. If you are considering making your next home here, consider all the services Brisbane has to offer as applying to this town as well.

See for yourself. Notice Tamborine is just to the south of Brisbane.

CLIMATE

The Mountain has a cooler climate, a welcome relief for anyone who has endured a Brisbane or Gold Coast summer. Rich, red volcanic topsoil moistened by more than 1550mm of rain each year, feeding subsurface streams and basins to make it a wonderland for horticulturalists. Avocados, kiwifruit and rhubarb head a long list of commercial crops.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

Annual events include:

  • Springtime on the Mountain

  • Cane Toad Pestival

  • markets galore

Tourists can visit "Gallery Walk" along Long Road at Eagle Heights. This is a row of shops selling homemade crafts, soaps, Australian bushcraft, natural produce and other delights. Visitors can enjoy everything from cappuccinos to Devonshire tea, rich cakes, casual food and elegant dining.

Around the mountain, visitors can find garden nurseries with teahouses, craft shops, art galleries and excellent restaurants. They can watch hang gliders lunging off the escarpment, take bushwalks through rainforests to waterfalls, and visit the wineries and a distillery.

Markets are held regularly at different locations.

In other words... there's lots to do!

TAMBORINE AREA

Can we go much further than the mountain itself. Tamborine National Park is spattered with the 12 separate reserves which make up the National Park, interspersed with villages. There are a number of beautiful picnic areas as well as scenic drives and many bushwalks to such attractions as lookouts, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, rainforest areas, wet eucalypt forest, open forest and woodlands.

A couple of years ago we had the pleasure of travelling to this beautiful part of Queensland. What we remembered most was the koalas. No doubt you have seen

them in zoos or parks, but have you ever seen them in the wild? We did. In fact it was a mother carrying her baby on her back... very cute. We saw them crossing a road (had to swerve to miss them) and we only hope they made it to their destination safely. The only time we have seen koalas in the wild, and it was on this mountain!

Please see our Beaudesert page for more information, the towns being part of the Beaudesert Shire.
